About
Pellagri is a Prince Edward Island (PEI) owned and operated company that manufactures and installs CSA and CRN approved, pellet fired, commercial burner systems. This innovative burner system utilizes both low and high grade pellets as fuel. The company also manufactures pellets from waste agricultural material (primarily old hays and straw) for use in its burner / boiler systems.
Located in Hartsville, PEI, Pellagri has sold pellet systems domestically in PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador, and internationally in Russia.
Company History
Since 2001, Pellagri has been working to market straw as a fuel source. Straw is readily available, renewable and keeps money spent on energy costs in the local community. In order to accomplish this Pellagri had to address two issues. The first was making the fuel consistent in quality and stabilizing the fuel for storage and use. By converting the straw to pellets Pellagri was able to attain the quality of fuel.
Conventional pellet burners have a problem overcoming the higher ash content of agricultural source pellets. Pellagri’s unique burner system has the ability to utilize fuels of varying grades and ash content.
Environmental Benefits
It is estimated that Prince Edward Island has an estimated 150,000 to 170,000 tons of straw per year. This amount of straw would displace the requirement for 85 million litres of fuel. Since straw is a renewable resource there is a corresponding reduction of CO2 emissions of 227,000 tons.
